The Focal Aria 948 loudspeaker is the return of the true acoustic loudspeaker. A new type of 3-way loudspeaker with 8 1/4’’ drivers. The result is intense and controlled bass. Above all the idea was a return to the essence of acoustics for those who love music. Natural sound characterizes ‘F’ cones. They have low coloration. There is a richness in the midrange register. They have tighter bass. So, the result is a more homogeneous sound and improved dynamics. Aria 948 offers a classic yet modern design.
Consequently, this is the ultimate loudspeaker for the range for rooms over 320 sq. ft. and a recommended listening distance of 12 ft.
Our new TNF tweeter is used in the Focal Aria 948. We have brought two major changes to our aluminum/magnesium tweeter. The suspension between the dome and its bracket uses Poron. This material has shape memory. This comes directly from the famous Utopia Beryllium tweeter. This can reduce distortion by a factor of three in the 2 – 3 kHz range. The human ear has great sensitivity in this range.
Our inverted dome is greatly superior to the conventional domes used by competitors. This is the result of its spatial characteristics. So, combined with its very low directivity give it a stable soundstage. As a result, the listening position is much less critical.
The flax cones for the Focal Aria 948 are made in France by Focal since 2013. The cone exists to get great acoustic performance. Two thin layers of glass fiber wrap a high quality flax fiber. F cones are characterized by their natural sound. They have low coloration. They have richness in the midrange register and tighter bass.
The lightness of the fiber helps high internal damping, high velocity and high flexural rigidity. Because flax is twice as light as fiberglass. The fiber is hollow. It also has very low elasticity. This makes it ideal to increase the rigidity of a sandwich structure.
Focal developes and manufactures the speaker drivers in France. The Focal Aria 948 combines a leather finished body with either Black High Gloss and Walnut finishes.
